Real Estate Teamwork: It’s a no brainer

In the world of sports, we hear a lot about teams, but not so much about them in the world of business, unless, of course, we’re talking about real estate.

From home inspectors, real estate lawyers and mortgage brokers, real estate is a business built on the alliances forged with supporting professions. But increasingly the real estate model of sales teams is also a force to be reckoned with.

“The team concept is a growing one, that’s for sure,” says Dana Whitman, vice president of operations for Remax Ontario and Atlantic Canada. “If I got back into selling real estate now I’d jump on a team in a minute.”

Philosophically, the team approach addresses the age-old dilemma of being in two places at the same time. What happens when a realtor has four clients that all want an open house on the same day?

“The team is a very appealing concept because as a solitary realtor, you can only do so much business,” says Rob Golfi, sales rep and team leader of the 10-member Golfi team for Remax Escarpment Realty Inc. “Sometimes you need more hands on deck. The concept is also beneficial because you can pick and choose tasks based on people’s strengths. Let’s face it, as a sole realtor you can hit a bit of a ceiling because one person can only do so much.”

The team concept allows green agents to sharpen their skills by picking up tricks of the trade under the tutelage of veteran real estate agents. They also get to earn money immediately when starting out, which is a huge incentive that serves to keep new recruits in the profession.

Here’s a look at why hiring a realtor from a team is the way to go:

  • Your questions and concerns will always get a prompt response.
  • Teams offer more specialties because collectively there is more expertise within a team than there could ever be with a sole realtor.
  • Experience. The team approach adds up to more years of experience than most sole realtors could ever have.

“I often say, if you could hire a team versus a solitary agent for the same money, what would you choose?,” says Golfi. “I think it’s something of a no brainer.”
