Rob, Rick and Jennifer discuss the situation in British Columbia and Metro Vancouver. There is a legal challenge on the British Columbia Levy that has been imposed on Foreign Buyers seeking a class action law suit on behalf of those forced to pay the 15% tax imposed on foreigners. The notice of civil claim alleges that BC acted outside its jurisdiction when the Property Transfer Tax Act was amended in July targeting the country of origin or nationality of home buyers across Metro Vancouver. A lawyer behind the challenge says the revised legislation violates over 30 international treaties where Canada has committed to treat foreign nationals just as favorably as citizens of Canada. A judge must still decide if the Class Action Application can proceed. How closely are realtors in this province (Ontario) watching what is happening in British Columbia?
